Methodist Women’s Hospital NICU Vertical Expansion

The Methodist Women’s Hospital NICU expansion was a vertical expansion on top of the West side of the existing hospital. This new expansion consisted of 11,000 SF and included 14 new patient rooms and a penthouse mechanical room. Originally, this project was designed for 12 new patient rooms with no penthouse mechanical room. During design development, the construction team and Architect worked together and were able to expand to 14 patient rooms including two twin rooms. To accommodate this change, the mechanical room was moved to the roof. In order to minimize the disruption to patients and the existing staff, noise monitors were installed in the existing NICU. The construction team worked around the hospital’s patient loads and adjusted shutdowns to the existing facility to accommodate the influx of patients for the staff.
